A small bed and breakfast in a historic building near Via Etnea, with king-size beds, balconies and Piazza Duomo four minutes' walk away.
Zahara is a bed and breakfast with just a handful of double rooms, set in a historic building in Via Cestai, a quiet side street in the historic centre of Catania. Piazza Università is a couple of minutes away, Piazza Duomo four minutes on foot, and Via Etnea, the city's main street, is right around the corner.
It suits couples and solo travellers who want to see Catania on foot and value a personal welcome. The three room types each have a king-size, extra-long bed, a private bathroom with walk-in shower, air conditioning, soundproofing and a coffee machine, and all but some Standard King Rooms have a balcony; the Superior King Room also has its own kitchen.
Guests can use a terrace and a shared lounge, and the property hosts temporary art exhibitions. Wi-Fi is free throughout, while the airport shuttle, luggage storage, bicycle rental, daily housekeeping and laundry come with a charge. Check-in is private and arranged at an agreed time between 15:00 and 22:00.

Via Cestai is a short, quieter side street just east of Via Etnea, and on the same street stands the Gothic arch of San Giovanni de' Fleres, a fifteenth-century portal that survived from a vanished church. Piazza Università is about 170 metres away and Piazza Duomo about 240, so the cathedral, the Elephant Fountain and the fish market are a few minutes on foot.

With only a handful of rooms, Zahara has the feel of a small guest house rather than a hotel. The welcome is one of the aspects guests praise most: communication before arrival is prompt, check-in happens in person at the time agreed, and the staff are glad to share suggestions on where to eat, what to see and how to get around Catania.

Every room has an extra-long king-size bed, a coffee machine and kettle, soundproofing and air conditioning, most also have a balcony, and guests mention the small balcony as the place for a first coffee of the day. The Superior King Room adds a kitchen with oven and microwave, and a terrace is available to all guests for a quiet break between visits.
Zahara is at Via Cestai 11, a short side street east of Via Etnea in the historic centre of Catania. At its corner with Via Mancini stands the Arch of San Giovanni de' Fleres, a fifteenth-century Gothic portal. Guests at Zahara single out the location above all: right in the centre, close to the main sights, yet quiet at night. They also praise the warm, attentive welcome and quick communication, the spotless rooms with their modern design, comfortable beds and good linen, and the small balcony for a morning coffee.
